I am trying to make the move from Company and Stage Management in theatre to TV/film work as a Covid Assistant/ Covid Officer.
I obviously have not undertaken this new role before but it is one that really appeals to me. I have recently taken the Screen Skills ‘Covid 19 basic awareness on production course’ certificate and I am booked on to the First Option Safety course for Covid officers in mid September.
During my time in stage management I have been responsible for the health and safety of all the actors and crew in the company and have had to write and implement risk assessments for both the rehearsals and the shows. But probably the nearest role in my career to the one you are looking for was as the RSC Complete Works Festival Visiting Companies Coordinator ( a long title I know!). The RSC had an 18 months season where they mounted all 36 of Shakespeare’s plays. Only 8 were inhouse productions and I was responsible for coordinating all the other visiting companies both from the UK and abroad. Briefly this involved coordinating all their technical needs with the relevant departments, booking all flights, travel, visas, work permits, hotels and tending to any pastoral needs such as doctors, physio and of course arranging many many first night parties. I have also set up and run my own highly successful catering business from scratch, so quickly learning new ways of working in an entirely different industry.
I quickly adapt to situations and I am highly organized. I like to be procative, where possible, but I am also able to be reactive when the situation demands.
